        As early as in 2004, with the advanced industry forecast, Sun- yat-sen university has good expection on development trend of the domestic LED industry and successively invited Wang gang, Jiang Hao, Liu Yang, Baijun Zhang and other experts from Japan, formed a semiconductor lighting system of Sun-yat-sen university research center (hereinafter referred to as center). “Sun-Yat-Sen-Foshan institute” was founded in 2008 by center and Foshan government (hereinafter referred to as the Zhongda buddha institute),which carried out a full range of manufacture-learning-research cooperation with the local aim at the Foshan traditional lighting industry advantage and the urgent need of transformation and upgrading of traditional industries.

        At present, the Zhongda Buddha institute has a talent team covered material physics, optics, chemistry, microelectronics, analysis, testing and other interdisciplinary, and set up a platform encapsulated pilot line, testing and application of product development platform, built a experimental base with nearly 4000 square meters, created the industrial chain from basic research to the achievements, started a pilot production technology development.

        Take "service for industry, fosters the talent," as the principle at the beginning of the institute set up. In other words, is to combine with Guangdong’s lighting industry, emphatically play the core strengths on High-end technology development and the technology transfer ,  carry out the service of manufacture-learning-research cooperation, construct the innovation techology platform, hatch innovative technology enterprises, solve the problems and develop talents.

        There was no industrial base initially for the Buddhist institute, and then it built up a scientific research platform through cooperation with manufacture-learning-research, and  adopted the "go out and introduce" mode: on the one hand, sending the students to the enterprise for training; At the same time, opening the cientific research platform to the enterprise, guiding the enterprises to donate experimental equipment and send engineers to research platform to collaborate on research and development.

         Zhongda buddha institute had constructed a technological innovation chain from a semiconductor lighting denotation, chip to application products through the manufacture-learning-research cooperation. The product evaluation system research and application of benchmarking, semiconductor lighting light biosafety research, product reliability technology research, LED chips and light source module integration technology, optical design and verification technology, large size LED back light manufacturing technology and related enterprises, universities and research institutions joint research, all of which had improved the level of industrial technology, established the industry position for the Zhongda buddha institute.

       As the LED industry engineering and technical personnel training base, Zhongda buddha institute strive to become a bridge and talent intermediary agencies of cooperation between the  scientific research institutions and enterprises. Which had train more than 400 persons in the field of LE chip, encapsulation technology, product testing, technical standard and patent management . Moreover, it had trained about 30 talents for the enterprises and institutions.

       The framework agreement was signed by Joinmax, Guangzhou Yixin energy service co., LTD., etc in order to send senior professional personals to the industry. They established practice base, strengthen the training of scientific research quality and practical ability of graduate students, strengthen interaction between foshan city and graduate students, and cultivated graduate students keen sense of smell of industry development and the needs of customers in order to better service industries.

        Five years ago, the government of guangdong province and the ministry of education, ministry of science and technology, ministry of industry and information technology, Chinese academy of sciences, Chinese academy of engineering jointly carried out the far-reaching "provincial manufacture-learning-research”, and under this background, Zhongda Buddha institute founded a manufacture-learning-research innovation union “(hereinafter referred to as the "innovation union"), Guangdong provincial semiconductor lighting project”, which attracted many famous universities and enterprises to join in, Such as THU, Peking University, scientific research institutions and Guoxing photoelectric. Innovation alliance aimed at promoting manufacture-learning-research cooperation from short-term cooperation, loose cooperation, individual cooperation to a long-term cooperation, close cooperation, system cooperation, breakthrough restrict industry competitiveness of ascension.

        Innovation union launched the formulation of the technical standards according to the benchmark system research. Arounding the key generic technology industry research and development, patent and intellectual property rights, promoting and improving enterprise as the main body to make standard system, speed up the technologies, processes and products, all of which has a significant influence on the industrial development and formed a batch of competitive local standards in guangdong province.
        In addition, innovation union also carried out the LED industry research led by the Zhondda buddha, and to be involved in programming of LED industry planning for six provinces and regions, made recommendations for industry development of national and local.

       Providing service and platform by building up a benchmarking center.

       During service for the industry, Zhongda buddha understood that it was not enough to promote the development of dustry only rely on some technical problems with the enterprise joint research, but need to integrate resources, play a role of service industry, and establish good industrial supporting service system. What the most imperative is to introduct the industrial technology, talents, projects, science and technology cooperation, talent training, patent pool building, standards making, etc., increasing capital investment, promoting the enterprise's innovation ability, improving industrial policy supporting, etc.

        Combined with industry characteristics, the industry public services built by Zhaongda buddha had carried out the technical exchanges and cooperation with more than hundreds of enterprises and institution, formed a good technology interactive system for the enterprise to launched the "short, adaptable and rapid” technical support, which means that the after pilot production then will transferrto the enterprise for mass produciton and form a fluent industrial chain for technology transfer. For example, the Zhongda buddha institute has the international leading level of high color rendering LED light source module technology (one of method is to had the several intergrated chip packed into a designed electric conductive and heat dissipation module ) transferred to the ZhongHao photoelectric company, and which had achieved mass production.
        
Industry public service platform as an effective tool of resource integration, formed a broad channels and interfaces to the government, industry, universities, research institutions, intermediary agencies which through application technology research, technology research and  and talent training, shaped a set of engineering design, research and development, verification, testing, standards and market functions to service the system.

        The service platform also including the semiconductor lighting system research center (hereinafter referred to as benchmarkingcenter) and the optical design center relying on the benchmarking center construction (hereinafter referred to as the design center).the  Benchmarking center organization and coordination of various resources to participate in benchmarking system research and application, promotion of industry standardization, application demonstration and industrial technology progress and development, making industry international brands, and enchancing the international competitiveness of industry by organizing our country enterprise to participate in international standards, testing and certification technology exchanges and cooperation.
       
Design center carried out all-round services including optical design, optical verification diagnosis, structure design, personalized design of lamps and lanterns, consulting and talent training in view of the present situation that the enterprise ennovation ability insufficiency, talent and technology severe shortage relying on the buddha institute’s existing equipment, technology and talent advantage to reduce the manufacturing cost, improve the efficiency of enterprise product research and development.

       The construction of public service platform will play a significant role, which was good at improving the industry service system, promoting the close cooperation with manufacture-learning-research , mutual coordination, speed up the development of industry.  Zhongda buddha institute also has become a cradle of strategic centre in southern China LED industry, technology, product radiation source, and taken the lead in the new backbone of technological progress, and it really blended in the national innovation system.
