One Harbour Gate is a Grade A seaview office project located at 18 Hung Luen Road, Hung Hom Bay, Hong Kong. Developed by Wheelock Properties, it consists of two commercial towers and two retail podiums. The West Office Tower stands 15 storeys high with a gross floor area of approximately 357,000 square feet, while the West Retail Podium is 2 storeys high with around 36,000 square feet.
In 2015, China Life Insurance (Overseas) acquired the entire West Tower and West Retail Podium as its Hong Kong operational headquarters, renamed China Life Centre — a strategic base for the company rooted in Hong Kong and reaching the world.
Based on China Life’s corporate VI design and the actual glass curtain wall structure of the building, the project efficiently responded to the client’s urgent demand for a new illuminated LED signage system, in strict compliance with relevant laws and regulations issued by authoritative government departments including the Buildings Department of Hong Kong.
The signage panels adopt embedded exposed white-light LED waterproof light source modules. The metal surfaces are finished with high-quality outdoor AkzoNobel fluorocarbon paint, appearing white by day and emitting uniform white light when illuminated at night.

Different from traditional rooftop signage installation, the new design eliminates the bulky and complex steel structure support at the rear. Instead, it applies lightweight, customizable and high wind-resistant new materials.
By fully utilizing the characteristics of the curtain wall structure, combined with wind load analysis and repeated scientific calculations on structural stress rationality, the solution ensures safety and reliability.
The project was completed in the shortest possible time, while significantly reducing the huge costs and implementation risks of traditional schemes — which involve removing curtain wall glass, drilling holes and refitting new panels. The solution fully meets the client’s requirements in all aspects.

The signage system adopts centralized PWM dimming driven by high-power drivers via DMX512 interface. Supported by proven applications in numerous large-scale projects, the matching between signage light sources and the control system delivers exceptional reliability.
By connecting to an asynchronous off-line control host, the brightness of the sign can be scheduled for different time periods, maximizing the balance between energy saving, clarity and high visibility at all hours.
Furthermore, supported by a wireless network system, the signage signal and power supply systems enable remote monitoring and management, greatly facilitating daily operation and maintenance.
It strongly supports and safeguards China Life’s brand promotion to the world.
